First off, I have to admit that I arrived 45 minutes late to the meeting. Almost completely forgot, and would have if my daughter hadn't reminded me.
Offiicers Elected:
Jim Witkins, re-elected chair, Vicky Lanier - treasurer, Russ Gomes - secretary and Paul Fuchs is vice chair.
Dr. Borden presented a power point outlining the Lyme Old Lyme teacher evaluation plan which is in early stages.
Chartwells presented the Board with a pasta meal which they serve at the high school. The board complimented their meal as delicious and healthy. Our district is ahead of the curve and had begun serving healthier choices several years ago. This author has eaten several meals served at the elementary schools and cannot honestly say that delicious would be among my choice of adjectives.
Dr. Borden and John Rhodes presented the board with the various innovative and resourceful ways that teachers within the district are using technololgy. She had sent out an email asking teachers how they are using the district's resources and was inundated with responses. Long and short, we have amazingly creative teachers within our distict who are taking advantage of the technology we offer. Future goals are to have one technology device per student in the high school, wireless accessability in all schools, and Smartboards are all grade levels.
The LOL Education Foundation has an opening for a board member.
The New London school district is going to pilot a program of an extended school day.
